Children's Services

West Memphis Public Library employs a full-time children's librarian to plan and conduct children's and young adult programs.   On-going activities include the following:

Monday night bedtime story: a 30-40 minute quiet reading session geared to the interests of children 4-9.  Meets at 7 P.M., year-round.

Wednesday morning storytime: a 30 minute reading and activity session for ages 3-6; meets at 10:30 A.M., year-round.

Special storytimes: Special occasional storytimes for preschool groups may be scheduled as time permits.

School visits: The children's services librarian will visit public or private school classes, preschool through junior high, by arrangement.  Possible programs include story reading and booktalks.

School tours: Informational tours of the library will be provided to school groups by appointment.

Summer reading club: The library schedules a seven week reading program each summer for children who have completed kindergarten through sixth grade.  Children set reading goals for which they can earn rewards and have the option to participate in weekly related activities.

Reference services: The children's services librarian is available in the library most afternoons after school to assist children in locating reference materials.

Computer access: Children have access to electronic information service at the library.   This includes internet availability.  Children who are pre-readers must be accompanied by a parent or another responsible adult.  In the Easy room, a computer is available for non-internet use for children 10 and under supervised by the Children's Librarian.
